Jennifer Lopez Makes a Splash (Literally) With Pitbull at 2013 Premios Juventud Awards—Watch!

Leave it to Jennifer Lopez to get a party started.

The singer did just that when she took the stage to kick off the 2013 Premios Juventud Awards at the Bank United Center in Miami on Thursday.

Of course, she did have a little help from Pitbull, who joined the gorgeous gal on a medley of tunes that included "On the Floor," "Dance Again" and "Live It Up."

And let's just say the two made quite a splash—literally—at the end of their performance when they jumped into a pool, clothes and all. (See the clip above.)

Later in the show, Lopez was presented with the World Icon Award.

"When I see all these images and your beautiful face, I feel very fortunate to be here tonight," she told the crowd. "What I have always wanted to do with my life is to create, dance, act and entertain; and be a good person."

She added, "I love what I do. I'm an artist. And I know that being a role model to my community means to be responsible for my actions. I too am human, and I make mistakes. But I promise you that when I fall, I get up again. When I make a mistake, I learn the lesson and I am ready to confront the next challenge.

"I accept this award with a lot of humility and I am enormously grateful.

‘Teen Beach Movie’: Reviews Of Disney Channel’s Musical Hit

Ross Lynch and company took to the ocean on July 19 for ‘Teen Beach Movie,’ our new summer obsession full of stars, songs, and sand. Ross and the rest of the cast got us hook, line, and sinker when they came in for an EXCLUSIVE interview (which you can watch below), now see if everyone else is on the bandwagon too!

Have you ever thought to yourself how much High School Musical would be if it took place on a beach? Well thank goodness the Disney Channel did, because their latest summer flick, Teen Beach Movie, which premiered on July 19, is a dream come true. Stars of the flick Ross Lynch, Maia Mitchell, Garrett Clayton, and Grace Phipps stopped by HollywoodLife.com before the premiere and got us on board, but is the rest of the nation following along?

‘Teen Beach Movie’ Reviews

New York Times

Of course, many other sources are tapped for the synthetic peppiness and romance of Teen Beach Movie. The film within the film, featuring a song-and-dance face-off between a biker gang and a group of clean-cut surfers, is called Wet Side Story (just one “s” away from a more distinguished musical) but more closely channels Grease, also a dominant influence on the High School Musical films.

USA Today

To be clear, Teen Beach Movie isn’t a retro beach movie, but a movie about two modern-day teenage surfers, McKenzie (Maia Mitchell, ABC Family’s The Fosters) and Brady (Ross Lynch, Austin & Ally), who get trapped inside a ’60s-era musical. However, the musical holding them hostage — Wet Side Story, where surfers and bikers battle for control of a local hangout — is more colorful, acrobatic and full of tunes than any of the actual beach films ever were.

Variety

Taken on its own terms the 95-minute Disney Channel original plays like a brightly colored beach blanket, albeit one that’s a little rough around its sandy edges.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Disney is clearly hoping to recapture the teen pop culture conversation with Teen Beach Movie, a more entertaining, clever musical than its generic title suggests. Written by Vince Marcello, Mark Landry and Robert Horn and directed by Jeffrey Hornaday, Teen Beach Movie goes out of its way to mock the movie musical convention of characters breaking into song but then devotes a whole song to the practice.

Sounds like everyone’s warming up to the summer sensation like we are! Teen Beach Movie really is a blast that picks up right where the High School Musical fun left off. But don’t take it from us — you can get a better idea of the beach-y fun by watching our exclusive interview with the cast below! And don’t forget to catch a Teen Beach Movie rerun!

Kate Middleton, Prince William Leave Bucklebury for London

One step closer to the royal magic hour! After about a week away in the comfort of the Middleton family home in the English countryside, pregnant Kate Middleton -- plus husband Prince William -- abruptly departed Bucklebury with police escorts around 3 p.m. local time Friday, July 19, Us Weekly can confirm. The expectant royal couple are bound for London, and all royal protection officers have since departed the Bucklebury area.

Whether the Duchess, 31, is immediately headed for St. Mary's Hospital to give birth in the Lindo Wing-- or simply back home to Kensington Palace -- remains to be seen. Says a Palace rep: "We wouldn't comment on the exact whereabouts of the Duke and Duchess – we wouldn't normally do so in their private time."

Earlier on Friday, a royal source told Us that Middleton's due date has "passed." The Prince, 31, has not yet begun his paternity leave, but is simply taking time off to await the birth of his first child. "We're all on the edge of our seats for news," a Royal Air Force source admitted. "I thought the baby would be born by now!"

Friday Box Office: 'The Conjuring' Scares Up Huge $17 Million

Warner Bros.’ The Conjuring has earned a whopping $17 million yesterday, including $3.3 million in Thursday night showings. The well-reviewed 1970′s-set demonic possession thriller earned just a bit less than the $3.4 million earned by The Purge on its Thursday night debut back in early June and just a touch more than the $16.7 million 1.25-day total, meaning it’s playing nearly identically. The Purge went on to gross $34 million over its opening weekend. If we give The Conjuring even the same multiplier (2.03x its Friday number), that gets James Wan’s thriller to $34.6 million. Barring unexpectedly bad frontloading, The Conjuring can steal away that ‘biggest opening weekend for a purely original R-rated horror film’ record that The Purge stole from The Devil Inside ($33 million) last month. It’s the biggest Friday debut for an R-rated original horror flick.
For what it’s worth, the film earned an A- from Cinemascore, which is unusually high for a horror film. Chalk the word-of-mouth up to both the film’s apparent high quality (waiting on the horror junkie wife for this one) and the fact that religious-themed horror film that plays well for those who are deeply religious. Think The Devil Inside, The Exorcism of Emily Rose ($30 million opening in 2005), and even Stigmata ($18 million opening back in 1999). In a far-less front-loaded era, The Exorcism of Emily Rose had a 2.67x weekend multiplier while Stigmata had a 2.8x multiplier. The same variables would give The Conjuring a debut of over/under $46 million. But even a relatively okay multiplier of 2.35x gets it over the $40 million mark.

Even if it “stalls” at $34 million, it still ends up one of the biggest horror debuts ever outside of films like the PG-13 The Grudge ($39 million), Paranormal Activity 2 ($40 million), Friday the 13th ($40 million),Paranormal Activity 3 ($52 million) and Hannibal ($58 million). If you want to count horror-tinged thrillers or horror sci-fi, toss in I Am Legend ($77 million), War of the Worlds ($64 million), Signs ($60 million), The Village ($50 million), and Shutter Island ($41 million) as possible top contenders. If it has anything resembling a 3x multiplier for the weekend (unlikely, but the film seems to be garnering solid word of mouth), then we’re looking at a $45-$50 million debut. Either way, expect The Conjuring 2 in two years.

Red 2 earned $6.34 million on Friday, or just a touch below the $7.3 million that the original Red earned back in October 2010. The first ‘Bruce Willis and other senior citizens make an action film’ entry had a solid 2.9x multiplier for a $21 million debut. Let’s presume a slightly lower one (it is a sequel after all) and go 2.8x for a $17 million weekend. Of course the original Red was leggy as all hell, going 4.3x its opening weekend for a $90 million finish. Don’t expect a similar miracle here for this poorly reviewed sequel.

Turbo pulled in another $6.53 million on Friday, giving it $16.23 million for the first three days and what looks to be a $28 million five-day finish, one of the lowest debuts in Dreamworks Animation history and certainly the lowest Fri-Sun figure (around $19 million) since Flushed Away in late 2006. Oh well, my almost-6 year old enjoyed it quite a bit, as did her mother. As sadly expected, R.I.P.D. earned just $4.8 million yesterday, with a likely $11 million opening weekend. With a cost of $130 million and no real upside on the horizon, this will not only be the biggest bomb of the summer but one of the bigger box office disasters in modern memory. I’ll go into a little more detail on this one tomorrow, but I’m sure Universal would kill for Battleship/John Carter type grosses at this point.

In holdover news, Pacific Rim earned $4.7 million, dropping a rather large 67% from last Friday. It’s eight day total is now $57 million. Word of mouth ain’t gonna save this one, and I’d argue that the scheduling of the San Diego Comic Con (one week earlier than usual this year) kinda messed up Warner Bros’ entire schedule, but that’s an essay for Monday. In the end, it appears that it was a big-budget would-be blockbuster that only played to the niche converted. Grown Ups 2 fell 60% for a $6.4 million Friday gross, compared to a 52% drop for the first Grown Ups. The weekend drop will be high, but Sandler’s general audience comedies tend to recover over the long haul as they become the ‘second choice’ for general moviegoers.

Despicable Me 2 dropped just 44% for a $7.5 million third Friday, and it may-well cross $275 million by the end of the weekend. The Heat earned another $2.8 million for a $122.8 million cume. In limited release, Fruitvale Station expanded to 34 locations and earned $229, 634 on its second Friday. It should top $1 million by tomorrow before a major expansion next weekend. And The Way Way Back expanded to 304 screens and grossed $616,000, crossing the $3 million mark.

That’s it for now. Tune in tomorrow for the full weekend numbers. And again, I’m not at Comic Con (kids aren’t old enough yet), but for updates, go to Why So Blu?, because they are friends of mine and they are knee-deep in the trenches.

SKATES In Hit-And-Run Case ... Maybe

Chris Brown will NOT be prosecuted for the alleged hit-and-run in May ... at least that's the way the victim wants it.

Brown was charged with the crime after leaving the scene of a minor rear-end collision without forking over identifying information -- i.e., a California driver's license and insurance info.

We've learned Olga Gure-Kovalenko -- the driver of the vehicle Chris hit -- has no desire to have him prosecuted, so Chris' lawyer, Mark Geragos, has filed legal docs to have the criminal case dropped.

Olga's lawyer, Freddy Sayegh, tells TMZ, his client wants no money since there was no physical injury and only minor damage to her car. This is consistent with what Olga told us on TMZ Live.

Here's the snag. We've learned the L.A. City Attorney has not agreed to drop the case. They're all in court right now, and we're told it's likely the City Attorney wants some time to think it over.

And, even if the City Attorney agrees to drop the hit-and-run case, Brown was also charged with driving without a valid California license, and the City Attorney could still move forward on that. Geragos just filed legal docs claiming Brown is a Virginia resident with a valid Virginia license so he hasn't violated any law.

And another, way more serious, loose string -- the judge in the Rihanna beating case could still use the info to trigger a probation violation, which could land Brown in prison for up to 4 years.

Anna Benson reportedly implicated in 1996 Tennessee murder

“Baseball Wives” star Anna Benson is currently in jail in Marietta, Ga., for allegedly breaking into her estranged husband’s home and threatening him with a gun. But it turns out, according to the New York Daily News, this isn’t the former stripper’s first run-in with the law.

The newspaper reported that back in 1996 Benson—who was then named Anna Warren—lived in a rundown Tennessee apartment that was adorned with satanic graffiti and anti-police messages. At 19, Anna reportedly became the subject of a manhunt after an 18-year-old man named Michael Evans was murdered in her apartment.

The newspaper reports that Anna fled town when she and then boyfriend Paul Dejongh were charged with the murder of Evans. She was captured five months later and charges against her were eventually dropped, the Daily News reports citing court records.

“She got away with murder,” Evans’ father, Michael Evans Sr., told the Daily News.

The same year her charges were dropped, Anna reportedly met Kris Benson at the strip club she worked at, and the two married in 1999.

But in 2012, Kris filed for divorce and the two have been struggling through their messy split ever since. Their arguing reached a boiling point last week when Anna was arrested on after she allegedly donned a bulletproof vest and burst into Kris’ home, ready to attack.

According to a police report sent to FOX411, once there, Anna smashed his computer with a metal baton and wore an ammo belt, which police later found when they searched her. They also found that she had a knife with her.

Kris claims Anna made it known that she had a gun and demanded he pay her $30,000. He appeased her by claiming he was going to get the money and then escaped and called police.

Kris currently has custody of the couple’s three children, and, according to the New York Daily News, he also helped her raise her daughter from a previous marriage, Alyssa Warren.

Michael Jackson went to great lengths to avoid being caught sexually abusing children

Michael Jackson went to great lengths to avoid being caught sexually abusing children ... even installing an alarm to warn him whenever someone was approaching his bedroom -- so claims Wade Robson in his latest complaint against the singer's estate.

Robson just filed an amended complaint, claiming the alarm would go off whenever someone came within 30 feet of Jackson's room. Robson claims Jackson also hung a "Do Not Disturb" sign on his bedroom door.

As we reported, Robson has filed a claim against the MJ estate demanding damages. Robson claims Jackson sexually abused him for 7 years as a child, beginning in 1990.

The details of the abuse are redacted in the complaint, but the allegations are pretty clear -- Robson claims he and MJ frequently shared a bed, Jackson often showed him porn, he told Robson they loved each other but no one would understand and he needed to keep his mouth shut.

Interesting side note -- the lawsuit mentions the Jordan Chandler case in 1993, when Robson was called to testify before the Grand Jury. Robson -- then 11 -- refused to testify and the Judge -- Lance Ito of OJ Simpson fame charged the boy with contempt. A deal was struck and Robson testified in a private session -- not before the full Grand Jury.

Powerful winds may stoke deadly Arizona fire

Wind more powerful than the gusts that swept an Arizona wildfire over the weekend, killing 19 members of an elite firefighting crew, were expected to whip up the flames Tuesday as crews work to corral the blaze feasting on tinder-dry vegetation.

National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Wallmann said powerful wind is forecast, with a worst-case scenario of 80 mph gusts. He also said possible weekend thunderstorms could complicate efforts, too.

"The winds are going to be a serious factor for us today," said fire behavior analyst Stewart Turner.

Some heavy federal hitters will soon assist the approximately 450 firefighters already on the ground when three U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft specially equipped to drop fire retardant will arrive in Arizona from Colorado on later Tuesday, reports CBS affiliate KPHO in Phoenix.

The aircraft can drop 3,000 gallons of retardant a quarter-mile long and 60 yards wide in about 5 seconds, according to officials. It can refuel and return with more retardant in 20 minutes.

Even with all that help, full containment isn't expected until about July 15, fire officials said.

Fire spokeswoman Karen Takai said it remains unclear how many houses have burned, but crews were working to figure out the scope of the destruction. The current estimate is 50 homes lost.

"It is very difficult for the public out here right now. They're out of their homes, there's a lot of uncertainty for them," she said.

For the 19 firefighters killed, violent wind gusts turned a lightning-caused forest fire into a death trap that left no escape.

In a desperate attempt at survival, the firefighters - members of a highly skilled Hotshot crew - unfurled their foil-lined, heat-resistant shelters and rushed to cover themselves on the ground. But the success of the shelters depends on firefighters being in a cleared area away from fuels and not in the direct path of a raging fire.

Only one member of the 20-person crew survived, and that was because he was moving the unit's truck at the time.

The blaze grew from 200 acres to about 2,000 acres in a matter of hours, and Prescott City Councilman Len Scamardo said the wind and fire made it impossible for the firefighters to flee around 3 p.m. Sunday.

"The winds were coming from the southeast, blowing to the west, away from Yarnell and populated areas. Then the wind started to blow in. The wind kicked up to 50 mph gusts and it blew east, south, west - every which way," Scamardo said. "What limited information we have was there was a gust of wind from the north that blew the fire back, and trapped them."

During a deeply emotional memorial Monday evening in Prescott, firefighters walked down the bleachers in a silent gymnasium full of mourners, their heavy work boots drumming a march on the wooden steps.

More than 1,000 people gathered in the gym on the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University campus as others throughout the state and beyond also mourned the deaths of the 19 Prescott-based firefighters killed Sunday outside nearby Yarnell. The day marked the nation's deadliest for fire crews since Sept. 11, 2001.

Authorities are investigating to figure out what exactly went wrong after the wind suddenly changed direction. Atlanta NIMO, or National Incident Management Organization, will be the lead in the probe and will aim to put out a report in the coming days with preliminary information, said Mary Rasmussen, a spokeswoman for the Southwest Area Incident Management Team.

The multi-agency group of investigators arrived Monday and was being briefed in Phoenix. Judith Downing, a spokeswoman for the taskforce, said they would go to the fire scene Tuesday.

At last count, about 500 firefighters were on the scene, with more on the way. The fire has burned 8,400 acres, or about 13 square miles, as a heat wave across the Southwest sent temperature soaring.

Southwest incident team leader Clay Templin said the crew and its commanders were following safety protocols, and it appears the fire's erratic nature simply overwhelmed them.

Riley Keough: 5 Things About Robert Pattinson’s Possible Mystery Date

The mystery woman seen riding around with Robert Pattinson this past weekend may have been revealed.

According to various online reports, the young woman is believed to be Riley Keough. If her name doesn’t sound familiar, her associations might — she is Elvis Presley’s granddaughter and once co-starred in a film with Pattinson’s ex, Kristen Stewart.

Pattinson, 27, was photographed driving around Los Angeles on June 29 with a flame-haired woman in the passenger seat of his battered pick-up truck. The pair picked up a ping-pong table together before returning to Pattinson’s home.

While Pattinson was driving around Los Angeles with a mystery woman, Stewart was landing in Paris ahead of the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week — furthering the reports that the two may have parted ways once again.

As for the 24-year-old Keough, this probably won’t be the last we’ll see of her. Here are five things to know about Riley Keough:

Her Famous Parentage:

Keough is the oldest daughter of singer-songwriter Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis Presley’s sole heir, and her first husband, musician Danny Keough. Born Danielle Riley Keough, she’s Elvis’ eldest grandchild.

She’s a Budding Actress:

Keough broke into acting at age 19 in the hit indie film “The Runaways,” based on the 1970s all-girl rock band. Keough played Marie Currie, sister to Cherie Currie, the band’s lead singer played by Dakota Fanning. The film also starred Stewart as Joan Jett. Since the film, Stewart and Keough have been friendly, with Keough most recently attending Stewart’s birthday party at Mexican restaurant Cantina Malo in April.

She Was Reportedly Engaged:

Keough may be best known for her role in “Magic Mike,” in which she played Nora, the love interest to Alex Pettyfer’s Adam, a young stripper who learns the ropes from Channing Tatum. Keough and Pettyfer began dating in 2011 on the set of the film and were reportedly engaged before breaking up earlier this year. She’s also been linked to actors Nicholas Hoult and Jonah Hill, and pop star Ryan Cabrera.

She’s Also a Model:

Keough was the face of Christian Dior’s Miss Dior Cherie Parfum in 2006. Coincidentally, Pattinson is now the face of Dior’s fragrance for men, Dior Homme. She has also graced the covers of Elle UK and Elle France.

She’s Touted as Possible Anastasia in ’50 Shades of Grey’

Keough is on a list of budding actresses to play Christian Grey’s love interest in the film adaptation of “50 Shades of Grey.” Other famous rockers’ offspring being mentioned include Bono’s daughter Eve Hewson and Phil Collins’ daughter Lily Collins. Interestingly, Keough’s ex, Pettyfer, has been mentioned to play Grey.

Big Brother 15 Episode 2: Playing Nice

The honeymoon phase has ended in the Big Brother house and it’s time to play the game. However the editing is making me feel like these players are playing a little too safe and too nice. Maybe I should check out the live feeds. Was anyone surprised by how much air time was given for Rachel Reilly? My excitement for this season has ended; I’m just waiting for a back to be stabbed and the claws to come out.
BBMVP Watch

So we still don’t know who this person is this week, but I’m hoping Helen is it! I have this gut feeling that Elissa will win it and I don’t feel as though it’s deserving because her sister was on the show before and that’s a fan base that will vote. I am still excited about this twist and how it will change the game. Floaters however are still in this game even with the twist. Especially with this big of a cast so we still have life vests being used in this house.
Another Alliance & Showmance In Bloom

The Moving Company … really? It’s as bad as last season’s “Quack Pack,” even Dan (@dangheesling) tweeted that the name was bad. It’ll be interesting to see if Nick’s theory is correct and this five-guy alliance can all make final five. Even the Quack Pack lost a member for the final five. The group wouldn’t be too suspect of an alliance but that could also make them even more susceptible to being in one. I was surprised that Nick called Spencer a “sleeper” type player, don’t count Spencer out. Spencer looks to be playing a great social game and Nick shouldn’t count him out.

The first showmance is in bloom and I’m dubbing them “Barbie & Ken,” which is Aaryn & David. This could be a really powerful couple but as we know with showmances they usually don’t last. I was shocked to hear the David was more into the showmance than winning the game. David needs to remember he’s playing for a half a million dollars not a budding romance, this isn’t an ABC show with roses.

Fear and the George Zimmerman trial

There has been a lot of discussion in the news media about the fact that the George Zimmerman trial is really a story of white on black (white man with a gun, black victim).

It is generally understood by many analysts that the public fascination with the case is really another manifestation of the racial tension and discord that still remains in this country, much as the O.J. Simpson trial was in reverse (black on white)

I am not discounting this view entirely but I want to present an alternative perspective. Rather than race, I believe our fascination has more to do with the mystery of not knowing exactly what happened and the almost palpable fear of death that we all sense is at the heart of this story.

We are petrified of losing control, never more so than when it involves the ultimate loss of control, death.

One or both men were afraid for their lives. But who was afraid the most? This is in fact the greatest mystery.

Was it Zimmerman, on the bottom of the scrape, having his head pounded, fearing for his life as he maintains, or was it actually the now forever-silent Martin, fearing for his?

As I wrote in "False Alarm; the Truth About the Epidemic of Fear," fear is a great motivator and it captures our negative imagination; we are petrified of losing control, never more so than when it involves the ultimate loss of control, death.

A gun is walking death, but so is the fear of an unknown stranger pummeling you into submission and then going further.

Which story is true in this case?

We may never know. But there are clues.

The striking photographs of an injured Zimmerman has been used at trial to suggest that he was badly beaten, but I must tell you that they don’t look that way to me nor to Dr. Michael Baden, one the top forensic pathologists in the U.S.

I discussed the photos with Dr. Baden and he agreed that the wounds “appear superficial.”

Earlier in my career I treated hundreds of scrapes and cuts like the ones on the back of George Zimmerman’s head at the Bellevue Hospital Emergency Room.

The scalp is very vascular and bleeds easily, making a cut look worse than it is. The same is true for the nose, and the fact that Zimmerman’s was bloodied doesn’t imply that he was hit hard.

The EMTs’ testimony that Zimmerman was able to answer questions at the scene and was able to stand and walk to the squad car and declined to go to the hospital also go against there having been significant injury.

There appears to be a growing body of evidence that George Zimmerman wasn’t badly hurt by Trayvon Martin, which is not the same thing as saying he wasn’t afraid of him.

Of course, it is also possible that Zimmerman’s fear was racially-tinged and was not in keeping with the actual risk that Martin presented.

If there is to be justice in the George Zimmerman trial then fear must be suppressed and the facts allowed to dominate.

Unfortunately, without Trayvon Martin’s side of the story to help guide the jury, this may never happen. If fear runs rampant there will never be a public consensus even if there is a verdict.

Harper, Hadfield and Jepsen star in Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa

Germany's Sabine Lisicki backed up her shock win over the world No1 Serena Williams by beating Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 6-3, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon for the second time in four years. The 23-year-old showed greater composure and used her greater experience to move within one win of her first grand slam final.

Having upended defending champion Williams in arguably the biggest shock of a tournament on Monday, the fear was that the German would experience the kind of let-down that so often follows a surprise victory. But the No23 seed was calm throughout and mixed her natural power with a delicate touch to run out a comfortable winner.

"I am very happy," said Lisicki, who plays the winner of the match between the fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska and China's Li Na. "It was an amazing match against Serena so I had to make sure I calmed down quick enough to be ready today. But I think the experience I had of being in the quarters here three times before helped me a lot."

It was always going to be hard to match the intensity of her match with Williams. Although the unseeded Kanepi had played four grand slam quarter-finals, it was her first at Wimbledon and with her nerves clearly jangling, there were more groans than cheers in the early stages. Lisicki looked switched on but Kanepi's inconsistent ball-toss betrayed her lack of calm and the German broke in the first game.

Kanepi, who had beaten Britain's Laura Robson in the previous round, possesses as much power as Lisicki but can be hugely erratic – when she misses, it tends to be by a long way – and the German's greater consistency and variety kept her in front before she broke again to take the opening set.

A dip from Lisicki allowed Kanepi to break for a 2-1 lead in the second but a double-fault handed the break straight back. From then on, Kanepi's belief slipped away and two backhand errors gave Lisicki a cushion as she broke and then held easily to lead 5-2.

Kanepi held serve to force Lisicki to serve it out and at 40-15 she had two match points. Kanepi saved the first with a fine return and Lisicki missed the second with a wild forehand wide. But the German held her nerve and after forcing a third match point, clinched victory with a drive volley into the open court.

Some bookmakers made the 2011 semi-finalist Lisicki the favourite for the title after her win over Williams but she said she was not feeling any added burden.

"There's no pressure because for me it's still a game I love so much and I want to keep it that way," she said. "I'm going out there for every match to win it and we'll see what happens."

Wimbledon notes: Sloane Stephens is last US player

LONDON — Without a doubt, Grand Slam tournaments bring out the best in Sloane Stephens, the last American singles player still around at the All England Club.

After her career-best run to the Australian Open semifinals in January, and before her second-week appearances at the French Open in June and at Wimbledon — where the 17th-seeded Stephens reached the quarterfinals with a three-set victory Monday — she went through quite a rough patch: a four-month stretch in which she failed to win more than two consecutive matches at any tournament.

‘‘It was a bad time,’’ Stephens said.

How did she turn it around?

‘‘Just knowing that I am a good tennis player. I'm top-20 in the world for a reason. I didn't, like, all of a sudden, snap my fingers and I got good,’’ Stephens said. ‘‘I put in a lot of work. [It] took a lot of sweat [and], like, ‘bad hair’ days, all that other stuff, to get to where I was. I realize that I just couldn’t let that go to waste. I had to get back to work.’’

At Roland Garros last month, the 20-year-old Stephens reached the fourth round before losing to 2012 champion Maria Sharapova. At Wimbledon on Tuesday, Stephens will take on 15th-seeded Marion Bartoli, the 2007 runner-up, with a chance to reach her second major semifinal of the year — and of her nascent career. Playing at Wimbledon for the second time, Stephens got through Monday by beating 19-year-old Monica Puig, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Stephens’s next opponent, Bartoli, is 28, owns seven career titles, and will be appearing in her sixth major quarterfinal overall, third at Wimbledon. Bartoli was a 6-2, 6-3 winner against 104th-ranked Karin Knapp, 6-2, 6-3.

Bartoli lost to Venus Williams in the 2007 final at the All England Club. Two years before that, Stephens recalls tuning in on TV for what she called an ‘‘epic final’’ at Wimbledon, when Williams beat Lindsay Davenport, 9-7, in the third set.

Robson stumbles

Laura Robson toed the baseline, then began her serving motion. The ball landed 5 feet behind the line. Moments later, she bounced her second serve into the net.

Those were the ugliest of the ugly for the British 19-year-old and they couldn’t have come at a worse time. The double fault turned what had been a 5-2 lead in the first-set tiebreaker into a 5-all tie.

Four points later, Kaia Kanepi had won that tiebreaker, and about 45 minutes after that, Robson was heading off the court, nearly in tears.

Robson failed in her quest to become the first British woman to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals since Jo Durie in 1984, falling, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5, in a jittery, error-filled match against an opponent who has been in these spots before.

‘‘I was putting a lot of pressure on myself,’’ Robson said. ‘‘At the end of the first set, I had my chances. I served for it. In the tiebreak, as well. At that point, I was just trying to will myself to play unbelievable tennis when, you know, just making a serve would have been fine.’’

Robson has the eyes of her nation upon her — though she’s hardly in the same fishbowl as Andy Murray. In trying to end a 77-year British drought for the men, Murray advanced to the quarterfinals for the sixth consecutive year by beating 20th-seeded Mikhail Youzhny, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

She insists she tries to tune it out. But, she concedes, this trip to the round of 16 felt much different than last year’s trip to the same spot at the US Open.

Robson finished with 24 unforced errors versus only 27 winners, as she had trouble harnessing the forehand that has served her well over the past year, during which she has vaulted from the 120s to 38th in the rankings.

She’s the one they came to watch on Court 1 on Monday. But as she collected her gear and made her way toward the exit to the extended applause, she kept her eyes straight ahead and didn’t even offer a wave.

‘‘Because I lost,’’ she said, ‘‘and I was just trying not to cry.’’

Djokovic streaks on

Novak Djokovic reached his 17th straight Grand Slam quarterfinal by beating Tommy Haas, 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). Djokovic trailed, 4-2, in the second set, but won the next four games. He has yet to drop a set in this tournament. Djokovic’s quarterfinal streak is the third longest behind Roger Federer’s 36 and Jimmy Connors’s 27 straight last-eight appearances. Federer’s streak ended when he was upset in the second round last week. Djokovic faces No. 7 Tomas Berdych, who reached his first Wimbledon quarterfinal since he was the runner-up in 2010 by beating Bernard Tomic, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4 . . . Jerzy Janowicz became Poland’s first men’s Grand Slam quarterfinalist since Wojtek Fibak in 1980 by beating Jurgen Melzer, 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Janowicz’s next opponent: countryman Lukasz Kubot, whose five-set win over Adrian Mannarino ended minutes after Janowicz’s victory. Kubot celebrated by doing his own version of the can-can, high-stepping it across the court before falling into the arms of his coach and friends in the stands . . . BBC broadcaster John Watson was told to quiet down by a player when his on-air segment interrupted a fourth-round match. Kirsten Flipkens stopped play to complain to the umpire during the second set of her win over Flavia Pennetta that a journalist standing on a roof overlooking Court 18 was speaking too loudly. Flipkens gestured angrily up toward Watson, who was presenting a segment on “BBC World News.” After chair umpire Fergus Murphy asked ‘‘the gentleman who’s broadcasting in the brown suit’’ to be quiet, Watson looked slightly bemused as he realized the comments were directed at him. He later said on Twitter he apologized to Flipkens in person after the match.

Wendy Davis: Rick Perry Has 'Made A Mockery' Of Texas' Rules

Less than 24 hours after an epic abortion bill filibuster propelled her into the national spotlight, Texas State Sen. Wendy Davis (D) went directly after Gov. Rick Perry (R) on national television.

Perry ordered the Texas State Legislature Wednesday to meet for another 30-day special session on a plan that would impose severe abortion restrictions, including the closure of nearly every clinic in the state. Part of Perry's official statement cast Tuesday's events as a "breakdown of decorum and decency to prevent us from doing what the people of this state hired us to do."

In a Wednesday interview on MSNBC's "All In With Chris Hayes," Davis was asked to respond to Perry's "decorum" remark. She struck back at the governor and Lt. Gov David Dewhurst, panning them as the ones who "led the charge" on the decorum breakdown.

"They have overridden and made a mockery of all of the rules that we run by in this state," Davis said.

Dozens of Senate Democrats held different sentiments than Perry, praising Davis for her efforts. A group of 31 signed a letter Wednesday, thanking her for the "courage and determination in defeating S.B. 5, a bill that would have severely limited women's reproductive choices in Texas."

Nelson Mandela On Life Support (REPORT)

Nelson Mandela has been placed on life support, CNN reported Wednesday afternoon.

The former South African president's health remained critical for the fourth consecutive day as tribal leaders reportedly were warned to prepare for his death.

According to Sky News' chief correspondent in South Africa, multiple sources confirmed that Mandela is no longer able to breathe unassisted. He has been undergoing treatment, including renal dialysis, at the Mediclinic Heart Hospital in Pretoria since June 8.

According to Reuters, South African President Jacob Zuma was scheduled to travel to Mozambique on Thursday -- that trip has now been canceled.

In an interview with CNN Tuesday, Mandela's daughter Makaziwe, the sole surviving child from his first marriage to the late Evelyn Mandela, said the family was enjoying “quality and sacred moments” with her father.

“All I pray for as a daughter is that the transition is smooth. He is at peace with himself. He has given so much to the world. I believe he is at peace," Makaziwe said.

Prosecutors say NFL star Aaron Hernandez 'orchestrated execution,' concealed evidence

Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez drove his friend to a remote spot in an industrial park in the dead of night and — still fuming from a fight at a nightclub three nights earlier — "orchestrated his execution," prosecutors alleged in a Massachusetts court Wednesday.

Hernandez pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and five firearms charges, including possessing a large-capacity firearm, more than a week after the body of Odin Lloyd, 27, was found near his Massachusetts home. A judge ordered him held without bail.

Hernandez "drove the victim to the remote spot, and he then orchestrated his execution. That's what it was," First Assistant District Attorney William McCauley said in Attleboro District Court.

"As (Lloyd) tried to turn, he was shot in the back, and the defendant and his confederates stood over him and delivered the two fatal shots," McCauley said, adding: "He orchestrated the crime from the beginning and took steps to conceal and destroy evidence."

Wearing a white V-neck shirt, red sports shorts and handcuffs, Hernandez showed no emotion as prosecutors laid out a bruising account of what allegedly happened the night Lloyd, a semi-professional football player, was killed, citing what they say is surveillance camera footage, text messages and witnesses who were working the overnight shift who heard gunshots as evidence. Hernandez wiped tears from his face at the very end of the arraignment.

Lloyd's bullet-punctured body was found by a jogger June 17 in an industrial park a mile from Hernandez's North Attleborough home. The death was ruled a homicide.

Prosecutors said that the killing was prompted by a fight between the two friends during a trip June 14 to a Boston nightclub. Three days later, Hernandez and two friends allegedly picked Lloyd up at his house at 2:30 a.m. Surveillance footage from Hernandez's house shows him leaving earlier in the night with a weapon, prosecutors said.

After getting into the car, Lloyd allegedly texted a family member, asking, "Did you see who I am with," prosecutors said. He then texted that it was Hernandez and followed it up with "Just so you know" in another text message, the prosecutors alleged during the arraignment.

Later that morning, between 3:23 a.m. and 3:27 a.m., employees who were working the overnight shift at the industrial park where Lloyd's body would later be found reported hearing gunshots, authorities said. It's not clear who investigators believe fired the shots.

"It is at bottom a circumstantial case. It is not a strong case," Michael Fee, Hernandez's attorney, said in court.

Prosecutors allege that security videos from Hernandez's house show him with firearms after Lloyd was murdered and show a Nissan Altima — the same type of car Hernandez had rented — going to and coming from the site where Lloyd's body would be found. He was seen exiting the vehicle at 3:29 a.m. with a gun at his home on the surveillance footage, prosecutors claim, shortly after authorities say Lloyd was killed.

Hernandez, 23, was placed in handcuffs and put in a police cruiser just before 9 a.m. Wednesday by Massachusetts State Police and North Attleborough police. Authorities have searched his home, on the Rhode Island line not far from the Patriots' stadium, several times over the past week.

Less than two hours after the arrest, the Patriots announced they were releasing Hernandez.

Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was taken out of his home in handcuffs more than a week after a body was found near his Massachusetts home.

"A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do," a statement from the team read.

The Patriots drafted Hernandez in 2010. Last summer, the team gave Hernandez a five-year contractworth $40 million, including a signing bonus of $12.5 million.

The investigation also cost Hernandez his endorsement contract with CytoSport, which makes Muscle Milk and other supplements for athletes, last week.

'I cried, I cried': DOMA widow says on hearing of Supreme Court win

NEW YORK -- The 84-year-old widow at the center of an historic gay-rights marriage case before the Supreme Court said she cried on Wednesday upon learning of her win, with the justices deeming unconstitutional a federal law that bars recognition of same-sex marriage.

Smiling and at some times emotional, Edie Windsor said: “I cried, I cried,” after learning of her landmark victory, hailed by one of her attorneys, James Esseks, as a “watershed” moment in the decades-long battle for gay rights.

“We won everything we asked and hoped for. Wow,” she told a room full of reporters at The Center, a LGBT rights community center in New York City.

The victory means the federal government must recognize the marriages of gay and lesbian couples married in the 12 states that allow same-sex marriage, plus the District of Columbia, and give them the same benefits that they had been previously denied under the struck-down law, the Defense of Marriage Act (or DOMA).

Donna Lieberman, executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, said it meant the end of what Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had called "skim-milk marriage" during oral arguments in March.

“I thought we had every right to win. I thought our arguments were sound and everyone else's were insane,” she quipped.

Windsor noted that her journey as a lesbian throughout the decades meant she had had to lie a lot of the time about her sexuality. Her other attorney, Roberta Kaplan, likened Windsor to Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Parks and Harvey Milk.

“It makes me feel incredibly proud and humble,” Windsor said.

Windsor launched her lawsuit after getting a bill for $363,000 in estate taxes after her wife, Thea Spyer, died in 2009 – two years following the couple's marriage in Canada. She noted that if her spouse had been named “Theo,” she wouldn't have received that bill.

She was heartbroken after Spyer’s death but also “overwhelmed with a sense of injustice and unfairness” and decided to sue to get her money back.

“Children born today will grow up in a world without DOMA. And those same children who happen to be gay will be free to love and get married – as Thea and I did – but with the same federal benefits, protections and dignity as everyone else,” Windsor said. “If I had to survive Thea, what a glorious way to do it and she would be so pleased."

Kaplan said Windsor would recoup that money plus interest, as would other couples who brought a case. For other couples, who are married now, the reimbursement will depend on each federal program and benefit. DOMA had blocked the access of same-sex married couples to more than 1,100 federal benefits.

As to the future, Windsor said she would be supportive of the ongoing efforts to bring same-sex marriage nationwide but would otherwise take a back seat.

"I don't have a ton of years left and I would like to relax a little bit," she said lightheartedly.

And when asked what she thought Thea, her partner of 44 years, would say on this big day, Windsor surmised: “You did it, honey.”

My Nanny Snuck into Michael Jackson's Bed

Paris Jackson told a creepy story about one of her former nannies and Michael Jackson ending up in bed together ... and she said it under oath during a deposition taken for the wrongful death suit against AEG.

Video of Paris' deposition was played in court Tuesday ... and the highlight was her description of Michael's relationship with ex-nanny Grace Rwaramba.

In the depo ... Paris explained to attorneys for AEG that Michael warned his children about Grace, telling them ... "She was sneaky. She wasn't an honest person, and she lied a lot."

Paris said she didn't know specifically what she lied about -- but then seemed to suddenly remember one freaky detail about Grace sneaking into Michael's bed while they were staying in hotels.

Paris starts out saying ... "This is gonna freak you out."

She's right. You gotta hear it, and really interesting to hear it in Paris' words.

Producer of Discovery show Naked and Afraid claims it is not 'exploitative' to film contestants nude but that it creates a 'pure survival experience'

An executive producer behind new reality show Naked and Afraid - which involves contestants being dropped in the jungle without food, water or clothing - has said that nudity on the program was never mean to be 'exploitative'.

Each week, a new pair of complete strangers - one man and one woman - find themselves stranded in and, quite literally, exposed to some of the world's most extreme weather environments.

An executive producer on the Discovery show, which started last Sunday, explained that the nudity on the show is not exploitative but merely part of creating a realistic wilderness experience.

When asked if she thought that nudity would get more people watching the show, Discovery producer Denise Contis told salon.com: 'Well, we didn’t develop the show to be exploitative, ever.

'We always developed it with our filter being ''how do we protect and it make it a pure survival experience?'''

The contestants private parts are blurred when the show is broadcast.

Naked and Afraid is billed as taking 'survival of the fittest' to the next level - and dubbed 'the Everest of survival challenges'.

Each duo is left high and dry with no food, no water and and no clothes. They must survive on their own for a full 21 days, with nothing but one personal item each.

According to Ms Contis, no one brought clothing as their item but preferred practical items such as a small cup, machete and goggles.

The dramatic trailer says that humans can only go three days without water - with the human body beginning to shut down after three weeks without food.

And contestants are seen desperately scrambling for something to eat, with one woman seen killing a fish as her partner yells 'chop its head off', as tells it 'you're my dinner'.

While another kills a snake, telling the camera: 'It will still bite you even though I cut its damn head off.'

Jonathan Klay, 36, a former Marine and bodyguard from LA joined Alison Teal, a 27-year-old surfer and filmmaker from Hawaii who currently lives in a Robinson Crusoe-style grass hut that she built with her parents over the last 20 years.

Survival instructor and country and western singer-songwriter Clint Jivoin, 24, from Indiana, says that ninety percent of his diet comes from his own hunting and wild edible plants; however, he is adamant in his disdain for sport hunting: 'Disgusting and despicable; if you kill it, then you’d better eat it.'
